Club Palm Gardens.
July 15, 2008
Every other hotel in Sri Lanka seems to have one of the words 'club', 'palm' or 'garden' as part of it's name. Club Palm Gardens was the hotel in Beruwela where we spent the last weekend. It's almost next to 'The Palms'. Previously we had been to Club Palm Bay in Marawila.
It was a wonderful holiday. So good that I never got a chance to take my computer out of the bag. It's been years since that happened. There have been other times when I have left it behind but later wished that I had it with me, not this time around. I was too busy playing with the kids , soaking at the beach or taking photos.
However things didn't really get off to a good start, by the time we had tea, I had some nasty things to say about the hotel store in memory, however after a visit to the beach and sitting down to dinner I had forgotten almost all of them.
The food was wonderful. At most Sri Lankan beach hotels the food is rather bland because they are catering mostly to foreign tourists. At club plam gardens only half the guests were foreigners. So they had just a touch of spice in the curries but left the salads and 'western style' dishes bland as they ought to be.
As for the rooms, they could have been a bit bigger but who comes to a beach hotel to be couped up inside the room? The pool was also on the smaller side, but who needs a pool when the beach is so inviting. The beach at Beruwela is almost as good as the beach at Pasikudah , Nilaveli or 'our beach'
