Walaha 321

July 8, 2008

We moved into the new house on the 5th of June and it was on the 5th of July that the house was closed up overnight. That was because we went to Galle and spent the night at the Araliya Bungalow.

Araliya is a beautifull place in Walahanduwa near Galle. It's a plantation bungalow that belongs to Thalawakelle Plantations. It's quite different from the bungalows in the hill country which resemble old english , this one is definitely more Sri Lankan and it's not as old as the up country bungalows. It's set in the middle of a rural village and there are wattle and daub houses with in shouting distance.

So I was bit suprised to detect a moderately strong WiFi signal at Araliya. Araliya itself is not connected at all. So the network which was named Walaha321 has to be in a nearby building but it didnt seem likely. The most likely source of the signal s a project office for the southern highway, that has a long range WiFi network setup so that the engineers can connect to the office or the internet while on the road.

We have been to Araliya once before and made it our base station while visiting the Galle Fort, Unawatuna and relatives scattered all over Galle. This time around we didn't have enough time for visiting but did manage to drop into the fort and Unawawatuna. The reason that we didn't get to see our relatives was because we dropped into the Hiyara conservation center.
