Settling In
June 17, 2008
It's nearly two weeks since we moved to the new house and I guess it's safe to say we have settled in nicely. It's hard to believe that early last year, this was just a patch of bare land.
There are lots of things to adjust to, travelling is the biggest headache, it's two kilometers longer from here to Bishop's College and the traffic even as early as 6:35 in the morning is unbelievable.
My parents have also moved in with us and my father is terribly effected by the traffic. His office is walking distance from the old house. Now he has to travel about 15 kilometers in heavy traffic. Fortunately for him he doesn't have to drive.
There are lots of small things too no one is still sure which switch puts on which light. Washing is hung out to dry on the roof top. If there is a sudden shower, someone at the ground floor has to climb seventy three steps to take them in.
The postman, the garbage truck, newspaper boy and baker all have schedules quite different from what we are used to.
Last but not least the gate! it weighs about a ton (having being made out of discarded railway sleepers). We still haven't got a motor fixed to it. It takes two to open or close the it.
