The carnival is an ice cream parlour in colombo. For a long time it was 'the' ice cream parlour and a favourite hang out for students. It was reasonably priced, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Things have changed.

Students are not the only people who used to frequently the place, many young people after dining out would skip the desert at the restraunt and drop into carnival instead. In recent years a few more ice cream parlours have come up. Movenpick and the one at odel have apperently eaten into a sizable chunk of their pie (or ice cream).

I dropped into carnival yesterday, the first visit for this year. The place has been appallingly neglected. The walls once colorfully painted is now peeling off and there are damp patches on the ceiling. The quality of the sundae has thankfully remained the same though the price is the double of what it used to be when I was a undergrad just four years ago.
